December 3, 2020 – Chestnut-crowned Antpitta (Grallaria ruficapilla)
Found in the Andes in parts of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, these antpittas live in forest and shrubland habitats. They eat earthworms, spiders, and insects, including caterpillars, usually foraging on or near the ground. Occasionally they follow swarms of army ants, and may also follow large mammals, capturing invertebrates disturbed by them. They probably build open cup-shaped nests from moss, twigs, leaves, and other materials. Both parents care for the chicks.
