PaleRockfinch

September 20, 2021 – Pale Rockfinch or Pale Rock Sparrow (Carpospiza brachydactyla)

These birds inhabit dry scrublands and grasslands in the Middle East and central Asia. They eat mainly seeds, often cultivated grains, as well as green plants, and feed insects, including caterpillars and small cicadas, to their chicks. Their nests are open cups made of thorny twigs, plant stems, and grass, lined with plant fibers and animal hair. Females incubate the eggs alone, but both parents feed the chicks.
