SootyThrush

November 17, 2019 – Sooty Thrush (Turdus nigrescens)

Found only in parts of central Costa Rica and western Panama, these thrushes live in open areas at high elevations. They eat insects, spiders, and small fruits, foraging mostly on the ground alone, in pairs, or sometimes in small flocks. Breeding from March through May in Costa Rica, they build bulky cup-shaped nests from twigs, rootlets, lichen, moss, and grasses.
