June 27, 2017 – Slender-billed Prion or Thin-billed Prion (Pachyptila belcheri)

Found throughout the Southern Ocean, these prions breed on several islands, including Noir Island, off the southern coast of Chile, and the Falkland, Crozet, and Kerguelen Islands. They eat mostly crustaceans, including amphipods and krill, along with some small fish and squid, catching prey near the water’s surface. Nesting in burrows dug into soft or stony soil, they breed in loose colonies. Both parents incubate the single egg.
