June 17, 2017 – Purple-crowned Lorikeet, Blue-crowned, Porphyry-crowned or Purple-capped Lorikeet, Zit Parrot, Purple-capped Parakeet or Purple-capped Lory (Glossopsitta porphyrocephala)

These lorikeets are found in woodlands and shrublands of southern and southwestern Australia. Usually foraging near the tops of trees, they mostly eat eucalyptus pollen and nectar, along with some fruits and berries. Pairs nest in cavities in eucalyptus trees, usually near water. Females lay their eggs on decaying wood and incubate them alone, but both parents feed the chicks.
