RufousAntpitta

March 26, 2017 – Rufous Antpitta (Grallaria rufula)

These antpittas are found in humid mountain forests from western Venezuela to central Bolivia. Due to variations in their appearance and song throughout their range, the species is likely to be reclassified as a “species complex.” There are currently six recognized subspecies. Foraging while hopping on mossy ground, they eat insects, including caterpillars.
