March 14, 2017 – Scarlet-breasted Flowerpecker (Prionochilus thoracicus)

These flowerpeckers are found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and southern Thailand. Their diet is made up of insects, spiders, and fruits, such as mistletoe fruits, and may also include pollen and nectar. They are thought to be nomadic in some parts of their range, living in peat swamp forests, heath forests, secondary growth, and forest edges. Although their population size is not definitively known, they are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to rapid forest loss in their range.
