January 11, 2017 – Golden Pipit (Tmetothylacus tenellus)
These pipits are found in eastern Africa, including Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. They eat small insects and other invertebrates, foraging in grasslands, often on the ground. Their nests are built on the ground, usually under a bush. Unlike other passerine birds, they lack feathers on their lower tibia, the area of the leg just above the “knee” (which is actually the ankle joint).
