January 3, 2017 – Crested Bunting (Melophus lathami or Emberiza lathami)

These buntings are found in grassy or rocky areas of the Himalayas, central India, southern China, and parts of northern Southeast Asia. They eat a variety of seeds from grasses, grains, and weeds, along with some insects. Building their nests on the ground under rocks, bushes, or in crevices, they breed during the wet season, which varies across their range. Females probably incubate the eggs alone.
