December 26, 2016 – Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Bush-shrike, Mufumbiri Gonolek, Mufumbiri Shrike, Mufumbiri Bush-shrike, or Yellow-crowned Gonolek (Laniarius mufumbiri)

Found only in papyrus swamps in a small area of central Africa, these bush-shrikes’ range includes parts of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and Kenya. Their diet is mostly made up of small insects, including ants, beetles, flies, and caterpillars, along with some fruits. They are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to loss of their specialized habitat to development, burning, drainage, and other threats.
