December 3, 2016 – Orange Bullfinch (Pyrrhula aurantiaca)

These bullfinches are found in the fir and pine forests of India and Pakistan along the Western Himalayas. Their diet is made up of seeds, buds, shoots, and berries. Generally seen in flocks of about 15 birds, they forage on the ground around the base of trees and shrubs. They break into pairs during the breeding season in May and August. Not much is known about their breeding habits other than that females build nests from plant fibers, roots, and grass, hidden off the ground on flat tree branches.
