September 23, 2016 – Fire-tufted Barbet (Psilopogon pyrolophus)

These Asian Barbets are found in forests of Sumatra, Thailand, and Malaysia. They eat mostly figs and other fruit, along with some insects. Their calls are described as sounding somewhat like cicadas. Breeding between February and April, pairs dig nest cavities in dead trees or branches. Females lay up to four eggs and both parents care for the chicks.
