July 29, 2016 – Red-knobbed Imperial-pigeon (Ducula rubricera)
Requested by: @didaodi
These pigeons are found mostly in lowland rainforests of the Bismarck Archipelago and Solomon Islands. They eat various fruits and berries, foraging in the canopy mostly alone or in pairs. Not much is known about their breeding habits, but they may nest in low shrubbery. Classified as Near Threatened, they are experiencing a fairly rapid population decline due to forest clearance for oil palm plantations.
