RuppellsWarbler

July 27, 2016 – Rüppell’s Warbler (Sylvia rueppelli)

These warblers breed in Greece, Turkey, and the surrounding islands, migrating to northeast Africa for the winter. They feed primarily on insects and their larvae, also eating some berries and fruit. Their nests are sturdy cups of grass, leaves, and stems built inside of thick thorny scrub. Along with the Cyprus Warbler, they form a superspecies, characterized by dark throats and white ‘mustaches.’
