March 30, 2016 – White-eared Sibia or Taiwan Sibia (Malacias auricularis or Heterophasia auricularis)

These birds are found only in mountain forests of Taiwan. They eat nectar, flowers, acorns, berries, and insects, foraging in the canopy alone or in small groups. Little is known about their breeding habits, though they nest in dense foliage in the forest canopy, probably in April and May. Their loud and distinctive song is sometimes described as sounding like “fei fei fei yo.”
