Fantails are a breed of domestic pigeon descended from the wild Rock Pigeon. Originating in India, they are known for their elaborate tails, which contain three or four times the number of feathers seen in the tails of other pigeon breeds. Charles Darwin mentions them in On the Origin of Species, using them to describe some of the physical differences selective breeding has produced among varieties of domestic pigeons.
