March 13, 2016 – Masked Finch or White-eared Grassfinch (Poephila personata)
Found in northern Australia, these finches live in grassy plains and open woodlands. They eat grass seeds and some invertebrates, particularly during the breeding season. Females choose nest sites, usually in low bushes or shrubs and both parents use dead grass to build a flask-shaped nest, lining it with feathers and plant fibers. They incubate the eggs and care for the chicks together.
