February 26, 2016 – Black-eared Wheatear, Black-Throated Wheatear, Spanish Black-Throated Wheatear, or Spanish Wheatear (Oenanthe hispanica)

Found in southern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and into parts of Asia, these wheatears live in rocky habitats. Foraging from perches and catching prey in flight or on the ground, they feed on invertebrates, berries, and seeds. Their nests are flat cups, built from stems, moss, hair, and down, placed in bushes, on the ground, or in rocky areas.
