February 24, 2016 – Barred Fruiteater (Pipreola arcuata)

These cotingas are found in the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia. The majority of their diet is fruit, which they often eat while perched, sometimes gathering at trees where fruits are abundant. The largest of the fruiteaters, they are relatively slow-moving, yet can be hard to spot. Their song is a very high-pitched “seeeeeaaa” sound.
