January 10, 2016 – Red-capped Robin (Petroica goodenovii)

These small robins are native to much of Australia. They feed on insects and other small invertebrates. Hunting in mixed-species flocks, they spend much of their time on the ground or in low vegetation. Pairs define a breeding territory and males sing to ward off other birds. Females incubate the eggs and both parents feed the chicks.
