November 22, 2015 – Desert Finch or Lichtenstein’s Desert Finch (Rhodospiza obsoleta or Rhodopechys obsoletus)

Requested by: @gepwin

These true finches are found in southern Eurasia including the Middle East and parts of central Asia. They feed on seeds, buds, young shoots, and sometimes insects. Though they frequently live in arid habitats, they are usually found near streams or other water sources and also in agricultural areas. Males and females have similar coloration, though females have duller plumage. They form strong monogamous bonds and build nests from small twigs in the forks of trees. Both parents care for the young.
