October 4, 2015 – Pink-footed Goose (Anser brachyrhynchus)

Requested by: @derbytup

These medium-sized geese nest in Greenland, Iceland, and Svalbard and winter in the UK and northwestern Europe. Rarely some are spotted on the northern Atlantic Coast of North America. They eat grains, grass, and roots. Nesting in pairs or small colonies on grassy slopes, they line scrapes with down and plant debris. Females incubate the eggs while males guard the area. Adults undergo a molt, after the goslings hatch, which leaves them unable to fly for a few weeks until their flight feathers grow.
