September 11, 2015 – Grey-hooded Sierra Finch (Phrygilus gayi)
Requested by: gepwin
These small tanagers are found in southern South America, in Argentina and Chile, living in open dry scrubland. They feed on seeds and invertebrates, but will eat fruit when available. They nest in isolated areas from October to February, except in rare instances when two females share a nesting site in close proximity to one another. The hooded sierra-finch group contains many similar species which could be split into several genera.
