May 12, 2015 – Brolga (Grus rubicunda)

Requested by: taylorrbranham

These cranes are found in the grassy wetlands of northern and eastern Australia. They feed on tubers, crop plants, mollusks, amphibians, and sometimes mice. Brolgas mate for life. Every year mated pairs engage in a complex courtship ritual witch incorporates dancing, wing flaps, and honks. Outside of the breeding season they gather in large groups of up to one hundred birds.
