April 14, 2015 – Yellow-billed Kingfisher (Syma torotoro)
Requested by: taylorrbranham
These small tree kingfishers are found in rainforest and mangrove habitats of lowland New Guinea and Cape York Peninsula in Australia. They eat insects, earthworms, and lizards, beating their prey on a perch or the ground before swallowing it. Nesting in cavities dug into arboreal termite nests, females lay three to four eggs. Both parents incubate the eggs and care for the chicks.
