March 22, 2015 – Common Kingfisher, European Kingfisher, Eurasian Kingfisher or River Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis)

Requested by: taylorrbranham

These kingfishers are found near water in Europe, Asia, and North Africa. They eat fish, amphibians, and aquatic invertebrates, spotting prey from a perch, then diving to catch it and returning to their perch to eat. They nest in tunnels dug into sandy banks, lining them with fish bones and pellets. Both parents incubate the eggs and care for the chicks.
