March 17, 2015 – Mariana Fruit Dove, Mwee’mwe, Totot, or Paluman Totut (Ptilinopus roseicapilla)
Requested by: taylorrbranham
These doves are found only on four of the Northern Mariana Islands. Introduction of the Brown Tree Snake led to their extinction on Guam. They eat a variety of fruits from trees, bushes, and vines, foraging in the canopy or on the ground. Females lay a single egg and both parents incubate it and care for the chick. They are classified as Endangered due to threats from the Brown Tree Snake, as well as introduced plants, habitat destruction, and hunting.
