February 19, 2015 – Moussier’s Redstart (Phoenicurus moussieri)
These small birds are found in northwestern Africa, particularly around the Atlas Mountains. They hunt from a perch, catching insects in the air before returning to a bush or tree, as well as plucking or digging them from the ground. Occasionally they eat small berries. They use certain movements, such as flicking their tails or wings, to communicate with other birds. These birds nest on or near the ground in vegetation, building a cup-shaped nest from grasses, hair, and feathers.
