February 6, 2015 – Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) Juvenile
Requested by: redcloud
Black-crowned Night-Herons are found in wetlands around the world, on every continent except Australasia and Antarctica. Their diet varies wildly depending on the food available, but they primarily feed on small land animals as well as fish, carrion, and some plants. These Night-Herons nest in groups. The males begin building nests until they find a mate, after which the females finish the nest construction while the males bring materials. These birds have a long-term connection to where they were hatched and will often return to this area as adults.
